What is Formulite?
Formulite is a brand that offers nutritionally complete meal replacement products which may be suitable for the preoperative weight loss phase.
Preoperative Weight Loss Before Bariatric Surgery
Weight loss prior to bariatric surgery has been shown:
- To reduce intra-abdominal / visceral fat
- To reduce the size and volume of the liver
- To allow for easier access to the stomach during the operation
- To improve metabolic status
- To reduce risk of excess blood loss, anaesthetic risk and post-op complications
- To reduce surgery time
- To promote for a shorter recovery
For these many reasons listed above, we recommend that patients undergo an intense weight loss program in the lead up to their surgery.
This weight loss program consists of following a very low calorie diet (VLCD), generally for a minimum of 2 weeks, depending on your body mass index (BMI).

Did you know that Formulite now have bars?
Formulite bars are a tasty, nutritious and a convenient snack or meal replacement product. Each bar consists of 2 pieces, which means you could have 1 piece as a snack option, or have both pieces for a meal replacement.
They come in 2 delicious flavours; Choc crisp and Lemon coconut. Each bar provides roughly 240 calories and 20 grams of protein. They are gluten free, low in carbohydrates and a good source of fibre (5.4g fibre in each bar).
